The Driving
Test Report. DL25 - Are You Test
Ready?
The DSA
state that those who pass their driving test have had, on
average, about 47 hours of professional training combined
with 20 hours of private practice.
Below is a copy of the Driving Test Report DL25. This
is the marking sheet DSA examiners use when conducting a
practical driving test. To pass your driving test, you are
allowed up to 15 minor driving faults, which is actually
quite a lot. If you were marked with a serious or
dangerous fault, this would be marked in the 'S' and 'D'
boxes, and would be a fail.
Let's focus on the positive side:
If you look further down the page at
'The Driving
Test Report Explained' After reading this you should
be able to understand what the examiners look at when
marking your driving test. You will have covered all of
these driving topics in the process of you learning to
drive.
Before going to test you need to
competent in all of these areas. If you go to test before
you are 'test ready', not only will you feel deflated, it is
also a waste of your time and money.
Your driving instructor will advise
you of test readiness, this needs to be agreed between you
and your instructor before any practical driving test is
booked! You will know when you're ready, when you become
consistent in how you are driving with very little input
from your driving instructor.
Remember you are not just learning how
to pass your driving test. This is a life skill which will
last you a life time. Keeping your life, and other lives
safe! Your success is our success. We want
you to be driving safely, we want you to pass you driving
test, and soon. But we will not send you to test unless it
is agreed with your driving instructor.

Your driving instructor has been
highly trained to keep you and other road users safe. She
also has 25 plus years of driving experience. If your
test has been booked but you have not reached test standard
for whatever reason you will be advised a course of action.
If you disagree and insist in going to test, then of course
you may still do so. However, we reserve the right to
withdraw the use of the driving school car, until a time
you reach a driving standard that you are considered to be
safe on the roads and in full control of the vehicle!
We feel that this is a better course of action, than sending
you to test, when we feel you still have areas which need
work. We have a duty of care to other road users, and are
very passionate about road safety! Most people want to
be good drivers and do take good advice, these people go on
to pass the driving test! Your success is our success and is
in yours and ours best interests in progressing you quickly
